The main activity of our cooperative is the cultivation of tomatoes and cucumbers, and our own brand is the well-known “Happy Tomato from Rye Island” (Veselá paradajka zo Žitného ostrova). It is no coincidence that Zlatná na Ostrove has become the home of the popular Happy Tomatoes. This area is Europe's largest river island and the region with the largest freshwater resources in Central Europe. Not only is it the most fertile agricultural region in Slovakia, but it is also home to a number of geothermal springs, without which environmentally friendly greenhouse cultivation would be almost unthinkable.
We heat all our greenhouses with geothermal energy, use rainwater harvested for irrigation, and apply biological plant protection instead of chemicals. Thanks to renewable resources, our cooperative emits 18,000 tonnes less carbon dioxide than other similar-sized traditional greenhouse producers. We strive to grow our plants with minimal impact on nature, which is why we have installed photovoltaic panels at all our sites, capable of providing up to 97 percent of our group's energy consumption.
Our cooperative is the largest producer group in Slovakia and the only international vegetable producer group in the region. Our annual production is around 10 million kilograms of quality Happy Tomatoes. in 2024, we added cucumbers to our portfolio, which we grow in our newest greenhouse of 6.2 hectares, producing 12 million pieces per year.
